TARGET designer

Placeholder Picture

Target Designer is a Test Creation application, that makes creating and modifying target files quick and easy. These printed targets are essential in the testing of Camera Modules (Image Sensors). Target materials can vary from reflective paper stock for use in front lighting systems or transparent materials for use in backlit systems. Many measurement types can be derived from a single target image. These target files then can be printed locally from a Web Browser or sent to an external print service for high resolution prints. Target Designer performs positioning and scaling of target objects with ease and accuracy. Scaling of objects and the whole target is determined by entering a few camera module specifications and test system parameters into Target Designer.

Main Functions

Target Preview

Placeholder Picture

This page edits the top level target parameters that sets the size and scale of the target. You always start with a blank target or you can open an existing target file. If the conditions or the camera specifications change you can simply adjust these parameters here and all of the objects drawn in the target will automatically be scaled. This page displays the target file in a web browser window so you can view the scaled target. There are zoom controls so you inspect objects at many zoom factors. The actual target size is shown above the web browser window. The Parameter Bar (to the right) contains controls and parameters for each page or sub-page functions. The Parameter Bar is also collapsible to hide out of view.

Target Objects

This page displays and manages the target objects list items, by adding, removing, re-ordering, duplicating, and re-positioning them. As you re-position items there is a "FOV Position Map" that shows a preview of where the object will be drawn. This tools has an "Align to" function that allows an object align to an axis to make positioning easier.

Object Editor

Placeholder Picture

This page edits the target object by modifying its object parameters, or selecting a different object from the "Object List". A preview window is shown so you can view your changes, and you can enable the positioning attributes to see how its fits in the target window, or disable to view in the center of the target.

Overlay Editor

Overlays consist of basic shapes, lines, rectangles, circles, and text. Overlays can be useful in aligning objects or just understanding the target area. Overlays can be disabled or enabled when viewing inside of Target Chart, and are not exported to the SVG file for printing.

Export Window

Placeholder Picture

The Export Window allows you to export 1, 2, or 4 up targets to a single SVG canvas for test systems that have multiple test cells. You can adjust the spacing of the targets by percentage (+/-) to set the correct view for each test cell in your test system. Export to a SVG file for printing using a printing service for a high quality print. You can also export to a PNG file for proofing.

Highlights

AUTO SCALING Target Designer auto scales the Target size and its objects based on the Camera pixel array size, Lens Field Of View specification, and the Z distance between the camera module under test to the target surface in centimeters. If camera specifications change or Z distance changes you do not have to manually scale or re-position objects, Target Designer will re-position and re-scale them automatically for you. (All objects placed in a target file are positioned by percentage of field of view, where the target center is X0%,Y0% and the upper right corner is X100%,Y100%, and lower left corner is X-100%,Y-100%.)
EXPORT FILE Target Designer draws all of its objects using SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) commands via a web browser window. SVG Files are exported from Target Designer for printing. You can export a Target as a single target, 2 horizontally, 2 vertically, or all 4 with adjustments for sapcing the targets on single SVG canvas. SVG is a mark-up language for describing two-dimensional graphics applications and images, and a set of related graphics script interfaces. The resolution of the target is determined by the printer DPI settings, not a rastered image file with an enormous file size.
CUSTOM OBJECT Target Designer supports your own custom object by linking your custom object Target Designer File into another Target Designer File there by nesting target files. Unlimited number of nests are possible. This feature becomes very useful when you have a complex object that comprises several other standard objects and you want to use it in other target files. As you change the target parameters for the calling target file the custom object will scale and position properly. Once a custom object is inserted into another file the only parameter available for editing is the "Custom Object Size" (it's default is 100%). You still can go back and make alterations to the custom object file but make sure you open the calling target file to verify the changes are correct.
OVERLAYS Overlays consist of basic shapes, lines, rectangles, and circles. Overlays can be useful in aligning objects or just understanding the target area. Overlays can be sent to the back or front of the normal objects in the target. Overlays can be disabled or enabled when viewing inside of Target Designer, and are not exported to the SVG file for printing.
